NETWORKED BIOPHOTONICS AND MICROFLUIDICS

We are an interdisciplinary team who develops next-generation biotechnologies by combining world-leading biophotonics, microfluidics, droplets and hydrogels, synthetic biology, and information science. Using our technological platforms, we aim to discover phenomena and elucidate mechanisms in biomedical and biophysical sciences, develop AI-driven diagnostics and molecule/cell functional simulators far beyond the human limit, and create world-changing functional molecules, bacteria, and cells.

Currently, we study proteins, exosomes, bacterial and mammalian cells, their interactions, and organoids in pooled formats. Members consists of experts in optical measurement, microscopy, microfluidics, biology (pharmacology, immunology), informatics, and materials.

Everyone in the lab starts from one expertise, learns the art of close collaboration across disciplinary boundaries (inevitable), and tackles important problems. If you are interested in acquiring sharp expertise, learning to think beyond expertise to find value, realizing your seed ideas and delivering them to the world, or any of these, please contact us. I wait to see contact from anybody who are motivated to open up the future of biotechnology through fun and interesting research from various fields.

  • We officially accepts MS and PhD students from several departments at the University of Tokyo. Before applying, please email Sadao to discuss your research interests. Please contact me as early as possible since it makes easier to arrange financial and administration situations.
